Five signs you’re disconnected from your authentic self

The world is a weird, wild and wonderful place to be. So often, it can leave us overwhelmed. When our minds and bodies are out of touch with one another, we can find ourselves in a place of anxiety and stress. But how can we know if we’re disconnected?

Do you:
✨ Say yes to things when you really want to say no?
✨ Hold yourself to unreasonably high standards dictated by comparing yourself to others?
✨ Feel like you're wearing a mask or playing a role?
✨ Have no idea what sets your heart on fire?
✨ Struggle to express your emotions?

You might be disconnected from your authentic self. Here’s five other signs you’re not showing up with confidence and clarity:

  1. You often find yourself saying "yes" to things that you don’t want to, just to please others

The truth is, most of us are inherent people pleasers. We want to keep the peace, make sure everyone’s as happy as poss and not put anyone’s nose out of joint. But at what cost? How often are you saying yes to things that don’t align with your values just to avoid the feelings that come with saying no?

  2. You feel like you're always wearing a mask, or playing a role, rather than being yourself

Some people might be into role play (no judgement here!) but when we’re disconnected from ourselves we can find that we’re being the person we THINK people want us to be, rather than the person we really, truly are. And that can be very jarring.

  3. You have a hard time identifying your passions, interests, or hobbies

When was the last time you did something because it felt good? Because it was fun? Because YOU wanted to? Disconnection from ourselves can lead to us not knowing what gets us out of bed in the morning, what fills our cup or what we need to do to feel fulfilled.

  4. You feel disconnected from your emotions or have trouble expressing them

Maybe you struggle to identify what you’re feeling. Maybe you feel numb or empty. Maybe you’re turning to unhealthy coping mechanisms. Maybe you feel like you’re going through the motions of life without fully engaging. These are all signs that you’re disconnected from your true self.

  5. You constantly compare yourself to others and feel like you're not good enough

It’s well known that comparison is the thief of joy. Do you measure your own worth based on how you stack up against others? Do you struggle to acknowledge your own achievements or successes? Are you big on negative self talk? When we’re disconnected from ourselves, we set unrealistic expectations and avoid pursuing our dreams or goals because we’re worried we won’t be good enough.

If any of these signs resonate with you, it’s time to reconnect with your true self. Join me for Authenticity Unlocked and take the time to realign with your authentic self. This isn’t about self-improvement, it’s about self-reconnection. It’s time to step into a life that feels truly and authentically you.
